EGO is not a dirty word

At just 59mm high, the innovative, portable Ego-360 turns any solid surface into a speaker with 360° omni-directional sound. Sit it on a table, window sill or even a car bonnet and that surface becomes the speaker. The cable plugs into your smartphone, Apple device, MP3, PC or laptop or the Ego-360 can take a micro SD card filled with tunes.

I Am Malala

When the Taliban took control of a remote valley in Pakistan, announcing that girls could no longer attend school, one girl refused to be silenced and fought for her right to an education. In 2012, shortly before her 15th birthday, Malala Yousafzai almost paid the ultimate price. When riding the bus home from school she was shot in the head at point blank range by a Taliban gunman. Malala has become a global symbol of peaceful protest and education for all. Her exceptional parents instilled in her a love of learning and the courage to speak out. This is Malala’s story.

Rum balls

Easy to make (no baking required!), there’s nothing like a classic rum ball to signal the arrival of the silly season. And if you can resist eating them all yourself, they make a thoughtful Christmas gift when wrapped in clear cellophane and tied with a festive ribbon.

Ingredients

  • 1 tin condensed milk
  • 2 tablespoons rum (or sherry)
  • 225g Milk Coffee biscuits
  • ½ cup desiccated coconut
  • 3 dessertspoons cocoa
  • Extra coconut for rolling

Method

  • Crush biscuits to create crumbs, mix with rum, coconut and cocoa.
  • Roll mixture into small balls.
  • Scatter extra coconut onto a plate and roll balls in coconut until covered.
  • Refrigerate.

For a kid-friendly version, substitute vanilla essence or a splash of mint essence for the rum.

Here we’ve photographed them in little patty pans, but this isn’t necessary
